Access to Public Transit Plays a Role in Decisions

Access to public transportation is becoming increasingly more important to homebuyers today.  According to a study conducted by the HNTB Corporation, 55% of Americans said they are willing to pay extra for a home if commuting via public transit is an option.

Here are the study’s other key findings:

  • Millennials are the generation most interested in living near public transportation.
  • 51% said that availability to good transit increases their interest in moving to and living in a particular area.
  • 73% said that they would support changes in community land use and zoning regulations if it helped encourage more public transportation development.

The desire for more accessible transit options is causing many buyers to reconsider where they wish to live.
